2024 International Development Grants Announced
The Peter Gilgan Foundation is proud to announce 19 International Development grants awarded in spring of 2024. We received more than 40 proposals from Canadian charities dedicated to improving child and maternal health and the education and empowerment of women and children globally.
Grounded by the Foundation’s desire to advance Sustainable Development Goals 1,3,5 and 6, and guided by the results of our 2022 strategic refresh which prioritized WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) in the Maternal and Child Healthcare portfolio, and women smallholder farmers in the Education and Empowerment portfolio, the review committee focused on projects that proposed interconnected and robust interventions that will bring about long term, multifaceted changes to the lives of vulnerable populations. The committee also prioritized projects with local leadership and deep local partnerships.
“The Peter Gilgan Foundation is proud to support the work of individuals and organizations focused on the health, well-being, and opportunity for women and girls. As we know, when we support women and girls, everyone wins.”
Stephanie Trussler, Peter Gilgan Foundation Executive Director
Grants ranged from $20,000 to $200,000, with an average grant size of approximately $80,000. Over 60% of the applications received were from new applicants, exposing the Foundation to great organizations leading the fight to reduce child and maternal mortality and empower women and children globally.
