Tour de Bleu 2021 raises $4.7 million for seniors care at Trillium Health Partners

September 13, 2021

The Tour de Bleu cycling event hosted by Mattamy Homes and the Peter Gilgan Foundation in early September raised $4.7 million, yet another record-breaking total for the annual fundraiser.

After postponing the 2020 event due to COVID-19, we eagerly welcomed a group of more than 60 cyclists and philanthropists to Tour de Bleu this year. On September 12, 2021 the group cycled the final 100k from Muskoka to Mississauga Hospital in support of improving health care services for seniors.

Now is the time to invest in seniors care at THP

Over the next 20 years, Trillium Health Partners will experience more demand for care than any other hospital system in the province. This demand will largely be driven by seniors. In fact, the total number of seniors in the Peel region is set to more than double in the next 20 years. Most live with two or more complex conditions and make up more than two thirds of THP’s current patient population.

The generosity of the Peter Gilgan Foundation and all of the riders, donors and sponsors of this year’s Tour de Bleu is especially timely and most appreciated. We are immensely grateful to all involved with this year’s event – you are playing a crucial role in helping us transform health care for a healthier community today – and for generations to come.

Innovation for more equitable and accessible health care

The funds raised through this year’s Tour de Bleu will help create new innovative service models for seniors, including an expanded virtual platform, to provide connected, accessible care to those who need it.

“The ongoing pandemic has highlighted our need for more accessible, equitable care, especially for those who are elderly. Support from Tour de Bleu will ensure that we can continue to innovate in order to provide exceptional and tailored care to our seniors,” said Karli Farrow, President and CEO of Trillium Health Partners.

“We are thrilled to partner with Trillium Health Partners and support a new kind of health care for a healthier community. Seniors today face many challenges,” said Peter Gilgan, Chairman and CEO of Mattamy Asset Management and founder of the Peter Gilgan Foundation. “It’s a pleasure to invest in a hospital that is helping to lead the charge toward more equitable and accessible virtual health care.”

Thank you to all of the riders, donors, and sponsors, and the incredible team at Trillium Health Partners!
